REVIEW: Tokyo Magnitude 8.0

This anime was created by Bones, the anime studio behind Soul Eater, Fullmetal Alchemist and Wolf's Rain. It depicts what would happen if an 8.0 earthquake took place. The premise of this anime is the 70% or higher posibility that magnitude 7.0 earthquake will occur in Tokyo the next 30 years.

Plot

The story centers on Mirai, a middle school freshman girl who goes to Odaiba Island for a robot exhibition with her brother Yutaka at the start of summer vacation. A powerful tremor emanates from an ocean trench, the famed Tokyo Tower and Rainbow Bridge crumble and fall, and the landscape of Tokyo changes in an instant. With the help of a motorcycle delivery woman named Mari who they meet on Odaiba, Mirai and Yutaka strive to head back to their Setagaya home in western Tokyo.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0 is a disaster anime that is based on what-if scenario. What if major earthquake hit Japan? Bones posted a disclaimer on every episodes claiming that the series is very realistic. After watching the few minutes of the first episodes, it is indeed very realistic and it made me believe that they succeded making a very realistic anime.

Mirai is a middle school freshman girl, a self-centered spoiled brat that has no basis to complain about her life and spending her time complaining with a slipping grades and her parents are on rocky relationship. She starts her summer vacation with her younger brother Yutaka to a robot exhibition in Tokyo`s articficial Island, Odaiba Island. Yutaka really loves robots! The earthquake starts when she was texting her friend telling that she`s had enough with the world and it should just break. It`s lame but it did happened on the first episode.

This anime is a type that you wouldn`t look forward to watch it`s every episode but to me it is a really great series! It even made to my favorite anime along with Code Geass! My favorite part in this anime are of course it`s final episode! It blew my mind and I cried! I`m not goint to talk about what happened in the final episode because I want you to watch it yourself! A highly, HIGHLY recommended anime!
