I was reading an article about Junko Furuta here on how she was kidnapped, tortured, raped and brutally murdered in 1988. She was held captive for 44 days before she was murdered. I almost cried reading her story. What an awful thing happened to an innocent girl like her! May her soul rest in peace...
After reading that post, I stumbled upon an article on Wikipedia about 'the Otaku Murder'. Some of you might already read this article before.
Tsutomu Miyazaki, also known as the Otaku Murderer is a Japanese serial killer. He mutilated and killed four girls (between 1988 and 1989), ages four to seven; he then sexually molested their corpses! He drank the blood of one victim and ate her hand. Miyazaki was arrested on July 23, 1989 when he was attempting to insert zoom lens into the vagina of a grade school girl.
Police searched his bungalow and founded a collection of 5,763 videotapes, some containg anime and slasher films. Miyazaki was diagnosed as suffering from extreme schizophrenia and he was hanged on June 17 last year. His bizzare murders fueled a moral panic against otaku.

It's pretty hard for people not the think that the murders occurred because the man watched too many anime and hacker films.
Stereotyped, yes, but there might be some truth to that especially when the person is already mentally unstable.
