REVIEW: Captain America: Civil War
This review contains HEAVY SPOILER! Click HERE if you have yet to watch the movie.
Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.
I have watched the movie twice and it was EPIC!
This movie is both a sequel to Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron. I can safely say that it will be hard to top this one! One of the best from Marvel by far. Characterization is balanced and the fight scenes were superb and it has an in depth story. Everything is just well balanced! The only thing that I dislike about this movie is that it jumps from place to place, a LOT! lol In my opinion, The Winter Soldier is one of the strongest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Civil War feels the same!
Some of my favorite scenes in the movie;
Chase scene
The chase scene was awesome. It involves Cap and Black Panther chasing the Winter Soldier!
Airport Fight Scene
The airport fight scene to me is one of the best and memorable scene of all! Nothing but pure awesomeness! Spidey made his appearance in his new costume created by Stark, Ant-Man went GIANT! Vision almost killed Rhodey and also because in this scene is where Spidey gets most of his screen time!
And THIS was in the movie! The most iconic cover from Marvel Comics’ 2006-2007 Civil War event series. You will see this scene at almost at the end of the movie. It was pretty awesome that they bring the cover to life in the movie!
Main villain of this movie;
The main villain of this movie is actually this guy; Baron Zemo portrayed by Daniel Bruhl. I can safely say that this movie is all bout revenge. Zemo is driven by anguish and hatred towards the Avengers after what they did in Sokovia which killed his family. Everything that happened in the movie is all about getting his revenge for his family by tearing apart the Avengers, in which he succeeded!
One of the few things that got me really excited for this movie is of course the debut of Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
TOM HOLLAND AS SPIDEY
Tom Holland did a pretty amazing job portraying Peter Parker/Spider-Man! Looking forward to his solo film next year!! Tom Holland to me is a combination of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's character which made him the perfect casting choice for Spider-Man!
MARISA TOMEI AS AUNT MAY
People went nuts when Marisa Tomei is being cast as Aunt May because she is too young and attractive to portray the character. Unlike Sam Raimi's version of the character, portrayed by 74-year-old Rosemary Harris and 66-year-old Sally Field in The Amazing Spider-Man, but I think she is at the right age in reality. Aunt May in the comics is way to old to be someone's aunt, don't you think?
BLACK PANTHER
I wasn't really a big fan of this character, not until he made his appearance in the movie! Black Panther is a really interesting character from a very interesting country of Wakanda. I am really looking forward to see his solo film in 2018 as they will explore more of the character.
Captain America: Civil War wasn't as complex as the comic version but Marvel simply gets it. They understand the idea of combining the film with its source material. Marvel did the right things by telling each other's struggles before putting them together, unlike BvS which kinda rushed into things. Which is why Civil War deserves a big fat two thumbs up!
Verdict: 9/10
