Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Review by Double H

Following the events of Man of Steel, Gotham City-based vigilante Batman travels to Metropolis to preemptively combat Superman, while another threat endangers humanity. Starring Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Jeremy Irons, Holly Hunter, and Gal Gadot. Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be the first live-action film to feature both Batman and Superman, as well as the first theatrical film to feature live-action portrayals of Wonder Woman.

Batman's rivalry with Superman begins during the event of Man of Steel where Wayne Finance's building was destroyed because of the fight between
Superman and General Zod and one of Bruce's acquaintance was killed during the fight. This also triggered Bruce's concerned about the future where it is possible for Superman to turn against humanity and he felt like he needs to be stopped. If you think Man of Steel was dark, BvS was even darker and grittier, full of mayhem and destruction in my opinion. I don't know why but it seems like Zack Snyder doesn't know how to bring out the light out of a superhero. There is so much lacking in this movie despite of all the hype it built before the movie was released. Unlike Deadpool, BvS seriously didn't live up to its hype. Batman v Superman is lack of humor, comparing it to Marvel wouldn't be right but adding a little humor in a dark movie would tone down the moody and seriousness of the film.

The film begins with a dream sequence, and it became repetitive throughout the film and which makes it pretty damn annoying!

Like what I said on my previous post, They wanted to introduce the Justice League so bad they rushed and crammed everything in the movie. At almost 3 hours of running time, the film lacks of character development. I don't think we need to talk about Cavill's portrayal as Superman because I personally think he did a great job on portraying the Man of Steel.

The Dark Knight

Ben Affleck's portrayal of Batman in this film very poorly served. There is lack of character development for Batman, we still don't know much of his story other than the death of his parents. Clearly they rushed this to really introduce Justice League to the audience. Batfleck was a serious downgrade from Bale's Batman because I liked how Bale portrayed the character and he really did perform a better Batman than Ben Affleck.

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman was unnecessary addition to the film and was there merely as a fan service. She has no real purpose in the movie, just like how Venom was in Spider-Man 3. She just popped up with no story at all and such little background.

Lex Luthor

Jesse Eisenberg’s portrayal of Lex Luthor was superb! But at almost at the end of the movie, his character somehow shifted into an insane, Joker-y character.

Doomsday

I have no problem with Doomsday's design in this film except they made him TOO BIG!

There is one sequence (Dream sequence) which was pretty AWESOME where Bruce was visited by someone in a red suit from another realm(?) screaming and warning Bruce “Not to trust him”. It was THE FLASH!! Using the Speed Force to travel through time to warn Bruce about the coming of
Darkseid(?) as hinted during one of the dream sequence in the desert where a huge Omega symbol was sighted. And yes that was our very first look at Ezra Miller's the Flash. My first impression? Honestly I don't like him because I still prefer Grant Gustin's Flash portrayal. But as Zack Snyder said, Gustin's Flash wouldn't fit in with the tone Snyder is building for the DC movieverse.

One more thing I wanted to add is this movie revealed too much of whats coming in the future. There is a scene where Wonder Woman is looking through Luthor's files of metahumans and there is a couple of folder with the rest of the League's members logo showing a footage of each and every one of them. It was pretty cool really but I think it was a little too much. Teasing their logo is already enough for me. It felt like the footage was added at a very last minute.

The final battle with Doomsday is exactly what I just wanted to see in Batman v Superman. The epic battle, plus the song that started to play in the background when Wonder Woman first showed up in her costume was simply amazing! It was an okay film, not that bad but wasn't that good either. But for sure I won't be watching it for the second time because I don't think it is worth a second viewing.

My verdict: 6.5/10
