Japanese Language: Class 3

Yesterday was my third Japanese language class and we have a different sensei every Friday. Her name is KUMAGAI and she is much younger than Yanai-sensei! XD She brought a radio to the class and listen to the music(Japanese song) while teaching us! Well, of course at a low volume level! I really enjoy her class. She is one cool sensei. She said that she wanted to watch anime with all of us when we have some free time next class! lol

KUMAGAI-sensei re-capped on what we learned with Yanai-sensei on our first lesson last Monday:

Introduction:

Hajimemashite, watashi no namae wa [Name] desu. Dozo yoroshiku onegaishimasu.

She added onegaishimasu there. It means;

Onegaishimasu = Please

Dozo yoroshiku onegishimasu = Pleased to meet you

When someone is telling you that he is a student, and you want to tell them you`re also a student, you need to say;

Watashi mo gakusei desu.
In English: I am a student too.

You can learn more about introduction on lesson two.

After that she taught us country names in Japanese. Here are some of the list:

America = Amerika
U.K = Igirisu
India = Indo
Indonesia = Indoneshia
Korea = Kankoku
Thailand = Tai
China = Chugoku
Germany = Doitsu
France = Furansu
Brazil = Burajiru
Japan = Nihon
Brunei = Burunei
Malaysia = Mareshia

For people in a particular country, you need to add "-jin".

Example: American = Amerika-jin

For Japanese people, you can refer them as;

Nihon-jin
and
Nippon-jin

but KUMAGAI-sensei noted that "Nihon-jin" is much more proper than "Nippon-jin".

Examples:
Yamada is a Japanese = Yamada-san wa Nihon-jin desu.
Mira is a Malaysian = Mira-san wa Mareshia-jin desu.

Question:
Mira-san wa Mareshia-jin desu ka? = Is Mira Malaysian?

Answer:
Hai, Mareshia-jin desu.

or

Iie, Mareshia-jin ja arimasen.
